Especially when it comes to these silver embossed leopard Lafont glasses!

I fell in love with the story behind these "Fordite" or "Detroit motor agate" pieces

"Fordite" or "Detroit motor agate" is kind of an anthropologist/ history-lover's gemstone dream... (myself included). It's not a "natural gem" (but dare I say cooler?!) 🙈Essentially cars were once spray-painted by hand and the excess paint would build up in layers, and was usually thrown away. However some factory workers realized that the byproduct could be cut and polished, so some collected it. Today it's pretty rare to find (as cars are now painted through an electrostatic process) and we were told some gem-hunters even look in the nearby rivers for chunks of the hardened enamel that were tossed in decades ago. So we were pretty excited when we were able to get our hands on some of this preserved history (which all stones kind of are, right?..) Our psychedelic 'Motor Agate' comes from a Detroit Ford factory between 1979-1981 (you can tell by the colors).
