One of the best classes I took at FIT was Product Development,
this class was a hands-on project based class that challenged my creative side
and provided clarity to what I would like to do in my career.
Our first step in this project was to pick a private label retailer
and pick color and pattern swatches.
I picked the Who What Wear collection @ Target,
mainly because well, I love it.
I love their patterns and the fashion risks they are willing to take.
Who What Wear @ Target is affordable, fashion forward, and fun!
I went to the swatch room at FIT to pick out my color palette and patterns:
We were taught how to do a "Pitch Sheet"
and how product developers recolor prints for designing new lines,
I choose a leopard print {obvs} and I liked this one because it was also polka dots.
I would definitely buy a shirt with this pattern and I am their target customer!
So on the top is the original pattern and I planned out a new color way:
I watched this video in YouTube and taught myself how to recolor the print in Photoshop!
So happy with how it came out!
+ yes I named these colors:
Next I had to design the siluoettes for the new garments,
We did research using forecasting websites and worked off Spring 2018's knit offerings,
For my print/pattern garment, I wanted the drop sleeves, similar to a top I bought in Thailand,
I also wanted an uneven hem line similar to the Hunter x Target sweatshirt from the collaboration.
I couldn't find and flats that were to my design idea so I decided to attempt to draw my own:
I was so impressed with my sketch,
I cannot draw to save my life so this was pretty damn good:
After all that, I ended up finding a similar enough flat version,
and totally modified it to make it my own design.
My friend Holly helped me put the pattern into my new design
and I worked on my Photoshop skills to show the color options for each garment.
Here are the three items that I designed for the Spring 2019 Who What Wear x Target line:
To present the line I created three foam core boards:
Board 1: Last years items, mood board, and color palette:
Board 2: Last year's items vs this years, fabric swatches, design inspirations for the new designs:
Board 3: Garment color options, line plan for the garments including budgets,
print/pattern original and recolored print options:
I worked really hard on this project but seeing the final products were so rewarding.
This definitely solidified that product development is the career path I want to pursue!
Speaking of Who What Wear x Target, they always have such cute stuff!
I am so in love with this floral leather jacket,
I still want it!
I also loved this pink version:
This earth tone leaf print is playing on my camo loving heart strings!
Also loving these striped dresses,
I wish it was a little bit shorter, like right under the knee
{I guess the product developer in me is just running wild these days...}
I do love this cube cross body bag,
such a cool design & perfect for this time of year!
