the cards we were dealt... one year since our egg retrieval
April 29th marks one year since I had my egg retrieval surgery,
also marks day one of our 37th week of pregnancy.
Officially "Full Term"
We are so lucky to be on this leg of this journey,
on one of the many hard days of the journey,
I looked at my husband and said "I can't believe these are the cards we were dealt"
"I am calling nil on this hand"
& he looked at me and said "Hey, nil pays off big in the end"

I wanted to share some photos from our journey on this anniversary of sorts,
I alluded to a lot of this journey in my deeply personal post
"The world's longest pregnancy announcement"
Our journey started with a year of traditional "TTC" (trying to conceive)
when that didn't get us anywhere, we reached out to an infertility doctor and were told we needed to do three rounds of IUI (intrauterine insemination)
to be eligible to try any IVF (in vitro fertilization) procedures
leaving us with a diagnosis of "unexplained infertility"
we started rounds of IUI,
we were hopeful
but looking at the only slight increase of odds of conception,
we were realistic that this was a stepping stone on the journey.

After LOTS of meds, it was retrieval day!

Then months and months of trying to get my body
to respond to various combinations of medications,
LOTS of fights with Optum Rx to get said meds (arguably the worst company ever)
to be eligible for a possible transfer.
Protip- ASK if there is another pharmacy you can work with.
We realized this too late.
Throw in some residual ovarian cysts left from the retrieval
& a bonus blood clot threat in my leg.

Got a heartbeat in October
❣️
& now we are in the last month,
the final countdown until we meet our son!
A perfect little combo of us:
It was such a long, exhausting, stressful, sad, frustrating road
& we are one of the lucky ones.
This really hits home:
