Lafont: Full Circle (in leopard glasses, of course!)

When I first spotted (pun intended)
my first pair of leopard glasses I was a freshman/sophomore in high school.
I had been wearing glasses since the 8th grade
& had been completely disappointed with the available selection.

I remember stepping into Gail's Optical Shoppe,
looking around and seeing a leopard print frame
hiding among all the black and silver frames.

I immediately rushed to then, read the inside arm "Jean Lafont", & thought
"Well thank youuuu Jean Lafont for making glasses that finally speak to my soul!"
and put them on my face,
it was love at first try-on.

I turned around to show my mom,
and she said something along the lines of "are you serious".

I think the smile from lens to lens should have given it away.

Yes I was serious. Honestly this was the first time that I felt like myself.

I wore them daily for years,
lens replacement after lens replacement as my Rx changed.

They are my signature.

Here are some college evidence, when you know,
cell phone cameras became a thing 馃槈

I first blogged my leopard glasses in 2011
and they were the inspiration behind THIS ENTIRE BLOG!

Fast forward to my first rendezvous
at the 2017 International Vision Expo in NYC at the Javits Center in April.

When I first passed the amazing LaFont booth,
I literally walked by like 馃槻馃槻馃槻馃槻

I thought, "THE Lafont, they are here, right here,
OMG look at how beautiful this collection is!!"

As the story came full circle,
Ruth from 10/10 Optics introduced me to Kristen the brand manager of Lafont
and she personally showed me the collection.
You can see all that beautifulness HERE from the original blog post.

Kristen said that she had read BehindTheLeopardGlasses
and knew that my leopard glasses were on their last leg and needed to be replaced.

She then let me pick out not one, BUT two pairs!
I nearly fainted.

I mean, I really just wanted a LaFont tote bag that everyone was carrying around...
Was not expecting to have my mind blown!

I've been carrying it around daily to NYC,
it fits my new leopard computer case from Amazon
& my Betsey Johnson leopard wallet that I got from Poshmark...
Can you tell I may be leopard obsessed?!

Ruth from 10/10 Optics gifted me the lenses for my new leopard specs!

These are the two pairs that I picked out:

OMG, they are just too pretty for words.
No doubt an upgrade!

They came in an amazing package with three printed scarves,
so pretty that they need to be framed,
could you image the three of these in frames on a wall?

Soon they got my Rx and were good to go!

Out with the old, In with the new.
But you know those oldies never going anywhere...
more for display since they will not be able to handle yet another lens replacement

Add some leopard pants and I AM IN MY ELEMENT!

What I Wore: glasses- c/o Lafont, lips- Revlon "Matte Seduction", top- Who What Wear x Target, pants- JCrew, flats- Cat & Jack at Target

I LOVE the leopard, metal, and crystal details.
They are so detailed and so pretty!
& these silver glasses are also a new favorite!
They are still leopard, but a silver embossed design.
So amazing.

Old + New + New

I cannot thank Lafont and Kristen enough.
It is amazing to get a leopard upgrade
from the original company that changed my whole personal style.

All these years later and I am still in love!

Shoutout to Ruth from 10/10 Optics
for the introduction and continued love, support, and lenses!

I found these beauties on framesdirect while diving into Lafont:

Lafont is KILLING eyeglass designs!
You should check them out, there is something for everyone!

May Humble Beauty #42

It is the last Saturday of the month,
that means it is Humble Beauty Opinion time!

Here is what I got in my monthly subscriptions,
what I purchased, what is on my wishlist and what I've used up!

I loved this month's Ipsy
The bag itself is so cute,
& I love the Mellow Cosmetics Creamy Matte Lipstick in "Posh",
it is definitely a new favorite lipstick.
I also love the PEEK Beauty metalimatte in A-Boo blush, I have been using it with a stippling brush and it is perfect for this time of year!

I passed on the Manna Kadar Split Pan and the Pacifica Island Life Eyeshadow Palette to my sister because they were quite neutral and similar to a lot of things I already have.

The big angled Royal & Langnickel MODA brush is interesting, I have to find a good use for it.

I also ordered this month's Target Beauty Box for $10
because it looked like a good one!

I love the Wet n Wild Cat Suit liquid lippie in "Nice To Fuchsia"
{wore HERE}, it is beautiful!
I have yet to use the rest, but I used the Nexxus samples up
which was quite difficult, the packaging was cute,
but so hard to get product out of =( all-in-all they were okay.

I am also loving this month's Sephora Play,
apparently I am not the only one,
after attempting to take this photo at least 5 times
due to Arnold's instance with playing with everything,
I thought I finally got a shot without him messing it up,
when I looked back at it,
this is what I found:

After he was satisfied with being a butt hole with my beauty products,
he went about his business eating with his hands because that is his new thing...

Speaking of Sephora,
one of the groups presenting their advertising/promotions project
{the project that I did on Lush}
Gave away their birthday gift to whoever guessed the right number from 1-10,
I GOT IT and I have been loving it!
{The number was 6 in case you were wondering}

Recently we visited Columbus Flea Market and I stopped by J&M Beauty Supply
and picked up lots of goodies at great prices!
I am loving the Physicians Formula "Canyon Classics" palette,
the CoverGirl lipstick in "Garnet Flame"
& the Milani Stay Put Matte liner in "Safari Matte",
I have been wanting a green eyeliner and this is my favorite so far, its perfect!

I also ordered "Courtney" from Devinah Cosmetics,
the mustard shade that I was obsessing over in last month's beauty post,
I love that they come with a surprise gift, this one is "Ice-Kissed" which I have also been loving!

Love them both!

Another exiting score of this month was this Anastasia Beverly Hills Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit
from my wishlist in March's Humble Beauty Opinion post!
My Zia found and got for me!

It is so pretty!

I picked up these soaps from our local Asian grocery store,
so fragrant and loving them

This month's wishlist:

I LOVE this red Lolita shade from Kat Von D,
available June 6th on Sephora,
 this is my perfect shade!
{Source- Trendmood1 on Instagram}

Jaclyn Hill released some more info on her next Morphe palette,
launch date will be released June 5th!

I want to try this "no frauds" shade from Klarity Kosmetics as seen on dupe that on Instagram,
such a cool shade!

This month's empties:
bath: Bath & Body Works "Warm Vanilla Sugar"- this stuff is pretty damn old, but I love the scent and still moisturizing / Matrix "Total Results Amplify Volume"- a good shampoo and conditioner, nothing too special / Loreal "Repair Remedy Mask"- I like this for some deep conditioning and this pot lasts forever. / Nexxus "Therappe" got in the Target box this month, like said- the packaging was cute, but so hard to get product out of / OUAI "Treatment Masque"- I liked the way this smelt but didn't have a lot of product in it / Dove Powder 24h invisible solid deodorant- I have since gone to the Secret gel formula again but this is a good one too / Lush "Big Shampoo" sample- Salty shampoo that surprisingly lathers quite well, hubby loved this last time we had it and it smells like summer / Lush "Curly Whirly Shampoo" sample- coconut chunks and scent, kinda chunky and weird but moisturizing, as for the curls, my hair doesn't do anything so I didn't notice a difference  {both samples from my Lush market research trip!} / St Ives Apricot Scrub- my all time favorite scrub, a must in my routine (and my sister's routines!) / CeraVe "Hydrating Cleanser"- I am not sure this does anything, honestly / Aveeno Positively Radient 60 Second In-Shower Facial- also not sure this did anything either, but fun to try / Celavi- makeup remover wipes, I get these from the Korean grocery store H-Mart and I love them! /  Lanc么me Visionnaire Crescendo™ Progressive Night Peel via Influenster {see full review in Thursday's blog post!} / Pears Transparent Soap- I get this from the dollar store and it is my favorite bar soap / bonvivant Botanical Mask Pack- these are so nice, I love them! / Celavi Essence Facial Mask in "Avocado"- I get these from the Korean grocery store H-Mart and these are an everyday fave! {you can get them on Amazon- $10.50 for a pack of 12!}

beauty: Atelier Cologne "Clementine California"- I liked this scent, not enough to purchase but it was nice / fresh "Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment"- these samples are annoying to use since you can't travel with them but this is hydrating and nice, I see the obsession but not necessarily the price tag... /  Seraphine Botanicals "Happy Hibiscus" blush from Ipsy- I love this color but the packaging broke apart so I de-potted into a Z Palette / Wet n Wild "Cr猫me br没l茅e" shadow- my all time favorite for brow highlight and even to set the under eye area, I always have at least two backups of this shade / Onomie "A.C.E. Illuminating Eye Treatment"- I was expecting to really like this stuff but it was so sparkly and not great, I ended up mixing it with the Rimmel Stay Matte foundation to lighten it up and make it a more blendable and wearable / Maybelline "Dream Velvet Soft-Matte" foundation in 15 Ivory- I thought I was really going to like this formula but it was weird and sat on top of the skin, not a favorite / Rimmel "Stay Matte Liquid Mousse" foundation in 100 Ivory- this is so thick and not really my shade, was given to be for review but I have had it for a long time now, finally used it up with the Onomie "A.C.E. Illuminating Eye Treatment" as mentioned above!

candles: 2 x "Cozy Nights"- Target candles, my all time favorite fall and winter candles, these are my last two of my supply, until next fall! /  Wood Craft "Craklin' Fire"- I get these at the dollar store and I like them, especially for the bathroom / Garden Party set of 2- I recently got these from the dollar store and have been LOVING them, they smell like spring and I need to get more! / Mahogany Driftwood candle from Walmart- I love these candles, this scent is amazing too!

What have you been loving this month?
What is on your beauty wishlist?

Can you believe it is almost June?!

Cait's Cozy Corner "How To Start A Fashion Blog"---- Guest Post!

I get asked frequently about how I started blogging and for tips on how to start one,
so when Cait from Cait's Cozy Corner contacted me to do a guest post,
it was the perfect opportunity to share some advice on "How To Start A Fashion Blog"!

Lets welcome Cait to Behind The Leopard Glasses!

Fashion bloggers all have amazing personal style to attract designers and future fashion friends. Bloggers are a rare breed of all creative types, dreamers, fashion-forward thinkers and entrepreneurs. Do you fit in with all of those breeds? Have you ever wanted to take your fashion to the next level? Do you love to write and dream of having your own business? Are you good at marketing your brand? Can you see yourself as a fabulous fashion blogger? These are questions to ask yourself before diving into the blog world head first.

I thought I would share two important things first; creating quality content and building your fashion brand. Let’s grab a cup of strong espresso and learn about the 13 steps and tricks to help you build your brand.

Quality Content- Readers won’t go near your site unless you have great content that keeps them wanting to revisit more and more. Not sure how to do that? Here are a few tips to reel those fashion lovers in!

1. Find Your Niche - Before you even scan start to blog, you need to figure out what makes you different from the next fashion blogger and focus around that. Try and set yourself apart by coming up with different and creative ways to stand out. Like my favorite quote says “ Why fit in when you were born to stand out!’ It’s so true! If someone has already done it, go back to your closet and try something new.
2. Think Of A Name - I think the hardest part of blogging is coming up with a name when creating your blog. Take a breath and take your time. PIck wisely. Think of something that defines you and your niche. Brainstorm with friends to get a fresh idea. Maybe even a title with your name? Whatever you choose- make sure you can build a relationship with you and your readers.

3. Purchase A Domain - Honestly, this was the big mistake I never did and it’s such an easy thing to do! As soon as you figure out your blog name, buy it. Some hosts let you pay as little at $10 for you to own your URL but it pays off! Businesses will take you more seriously when you have your own blog that is yours and yours alone!

4. Invest in High-Quality Photography. It's essential to invest in a DSLR camera to capture high-resolution images. Another way to ensure that your images are at their best is to make sure the widths are all the same size. If you publish pretty pictures, you will have repeat traffic to your site.

5. Let Your Personality Shine. When creating your blog, it's vital to let your personality show through your copy, imagery, and social media spaces. It can be difficult for readers to connect with you through small tech screens, so do your best to show off your personality. The more they can relate to you, the more they'll come back.

5. Plan and Set Goals. Consistency is key. Set realistic goals about how often you will post. You want to keep a steady publishing schedule so your readers know when to stop by your blog. If you post too sporadically, readers can lose interest and stop visiting.

Building Your Brand
After you've created a home for your blog, it's time to start building a brand. These 7 tips will help you assemble a readership, start to monetize, and possibly lead to blogging full-time if that’s what you want your goal to be!

1. Social Media Is a Must. Social media plays a crucial part in building your following. Every blogger needs to have a Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. Those are the most popular social platforms and the ones that brands will want you to have. Don't spread yourself thin by jumping on every social space.

2. Set Up Google Analytics. Google Analytics is a powerful tool for monitoring and analyzing your website's traffic. It lets you know who is visiting your site, what they're looking for, and how they're getting to your site. It also keeps count of your pageviews and unique visitors, which you'll need for your media kit.

3. Build a Media Kit. Create a polished and professional media kit. It's like a resume for your blog that informs potential sponsors about your mission. Your media kit should include a small paragraph about yourself, a small paragraph about your blog, your social media stats, blog stats, author rates, advertising rates, and how to get in contact with you via email and social media.

4. Working with Brands and Affiliates. In order to monetize your blog, you need to reach out and apply to affiliate programs. When emailing a brand, keep your message short and sweet. Always offer ideas of how you can work together. Brands and affiliates don't have time to think of ways themselves. Make sure to apply to affiliate companies like RewardStyle, Mode Media, and StyeList. They are the middlemen to connect you with brands.

5. Stay the Course. Prepare to hear a lot of nos before a yes. Don't get frustrated. It's important to stay focused, continue to evolve, and keep up on the latest technology.

6. Networking Is Key. Networking is key to expanding your brand. If you're looking for ways to network, here are a few good options: joining a local blogging network, guest posting, contributing to a blog or magazine, getting involved in your community's fashion scene, attending a blogging conference such as Go Blog Social, or attending New York Fashion Week.

7. Know about SEO. Another great way to grow your brand is through SEO, or search engine optimization. This will help your content get noticed. Learn more about SEO here. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with SEO, let me tell you a quick story of Matt Anton who started from nothing to build his empire in the website world. He used to play hours of video games and then switched his passion to learn about website development, SEO tips and how to make the internet. He developed his own site, NJ SEO. They can help build a meaningful relationship with clients using social media. They also develop effective content strategies for forward thinking companies and bloggers alike.

So, if you feel unsure about diving into making your own fashion blog, I hope these tips and tricks help you to feel more confident and a step ( or heel ) in the right direction! You can’t go wrong, but trust me, you’ll want to take the leap to make your fashion dreams come true!

Thanks Cait for lots of good info!

Now go make yourself a blog and show off that style!

TBT To Younger Skin? You be the judge! Influenster Vox Box Lanc么me Review

I was so intrigued & excited that Influenster sent me some Lanc么me products,
including a "peel treatment" in April.
To use and review for free!

My VoxBox included:
Visionnaire Crescendo™ Progressive Night Peel {retails for $75}
BIENFAIT UV SPF 50+ Super Fluid Facial Sunscreen {retails for $39}
Matte Shaker High Pigment Liquid Lipstick in "Pink Power" {retails for $22}

I have never tried anything like this so I decided to give it an good honest try,
I learned very quickly that actual legit skin routines are hardddd!
But I did my best and followed the Do's and Don'ts!

 So lets review:
** beware no makeup selfies coming up & it ain't cute,
especially after the peeling starts. **

After Phase 1 Day 1, I did like the results my skin felt brighter,
besides some redness and previous zits that were blessing me with their presence.
{this pic was after I washed my face in the morning}

I generally liked Phase 1,
I didn't have any burning or tingling or peeling after the 14 days of Phase 1.
But when Phase 2 started the burning was immediate, my skin turned red and irritated.

This picture was day 10 ish of Phase 2, and honestly looks better than it feels.
The skin on my chin felt like it was hard to the touch and flaking off.
No amount of exfoliation or moisturizer was helping.

The morning after one of the last days of Phase 2:

So what do we think?!
I think I really do see a difference,
especially in that stress wrinkle in the middle of my brows
from the last 5 years of teaching high school Bio:

I completed the Lanc么me badge on Influenster!
Influenster is a really fun program, check it out if you are into this kind of stuff!

So final notes/thoughts:
1. I am so happy it came with the awesome BIENFAIT UV SPF 50+ Super Fluid Facial Sunscreen,
I really like it, doesn't smell like sunscreen and I will be using this all summer. I was thankful to have it during the really peeling parts of the treatment.

2. I also LOVE the matte lip shaker in "Pink Power" that the VoxBox came with! That will also be a summer fave! {Already worn HERE, HERE, & HERE on the blog}

3. I never thought my skin was that sensitive, but apparently my chin was not having this.

4. It was also that lovely time of the month so, as a scientist, that is another variable that needs to be considered with the mid-treatment break out/peel session.

5. I do see a difference, I think. Maybe it is wishful thinking for all the nights of burning I experienced.

6.  I am 28 years old, I am not that concerned with wrinkles, although I have noticed some creeping up. My husband says that wrinkles show a life well lived and I agree.
I think my wrinkles say, "What on Earth are you doing over there" while teaching,
since I am pretty sure that is where they came from.

What do you think?
Do you see a difference for my pain and suffering?
Have you / Would you try a product like this?

Please share, I am curious about results!

Stay tuned for this month's Humble Beauty Opinion post on Saturday!
