2017 | Word(s) of the Year: Cha Cha Cha Changes & balance.

I was so inspired by Nicole from Writes Like A Girl Blog and her "Word of the Year"
approach to New Years Resolutions.
& have been thinking about my 2017 words...

{Check it out HERE & link up with your word of the year!}

I was also inspirited by Episode 56: Getting Unstuck from Hidden Brain

In this episode they discuss "Odyssey Planning" where you articulate of three completely different variations of the next 5 years of your life because there is not just one career or life plan for any of us.
After that you try some prototypes in each of them so you end up recognizing that there are many lives you can have and choose the one you are going to have.
Choose "the good life I am living now"

It may seem that this process would cause people to think about the things they are missing out on but they said when you lay out three ideas and articulate them to yourself you feel better about the choice you are making.

They also talk about "gravity problems" which are things that you cannot control and if you can't do anything about a problem, it is circumstance. If it is not actionable it is not a problem it is a fact.
Realizing that frees you to move on.

There is not one right job for you.

Listening to this really changed the way I was thinking about huge decisions I have coming up.
It made me even more excited for the future.

Worth a listen for sure:

So given all that, I decided that my 2017 Word(s) of the Year would be:
Cha cha cha changes
&
balance

I choose "cha cha cha changes" quoting David Bowie, obviously,
because this will be a huge transition year for me.
I am starting fashion school at FIT in NYC TOMORROW!
I have orientation for the next three days and classes start next Tuesday!

I am still teaching Biology, I have a maternity leave position until March,
and have been applying for other positions since I need something to help me afford this transition.
It was relieving to hear other people talk about not having one job that you are suppose to do.
I am a pretty good teacher, if I do say so myself.
I generally care about my students and building relationships with them,
I am reasonable, and generally love science and talking about science.

But I am ready to learn something new and change careers.
That is why the second word I chose was "balance".
I will be going into NYC after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays
and will need to keep a balance to manage teaching, school, blogging, and personal life.
I am one of those people who work better when I am busy,
so this should be an interesting test of my multitasking abilities 😏

Let's do this 2017!

What I Wore: glasses- Firmoo, lips- NYX "Kitten Heels", necklace- Instagram Shop, top- Forever 21, sweater- Old Navy, skirt- Loft, stockings- Nicole Miller, leg warmers- Five Below, boots- vintage

When I was initially thinking about the transition into the new year,
I came across this token from tattoo artist mellenmade on Instagram:

I have been following her designs and admiring her tokens
but none of them had stood out to me until this one.
I knew I had to visit Fortuna Tattoo

I love it so much.
I love that it will change into a lighter color when it heals, and that it was done with a shading needle so it is more like a sharpie look instead of filled in lines.
Check it out on mellenmade's Instagram

I have also wanted "balance" in white ink on my forearm for years,
as I mentioned in my "Tatted Tuesday- My Tattoo Collection" post,
but since white ink is very testy and doesn't stay I never found an artist that wanted to try it.
Until now!

Getting a white ink tattoo was so interesting and quite different,
you can't use any stencil because that would interfere with the white ink
so it needs to be free hand:

I love it,
time to see how it heals

It has been almost a month since getting these tattoos,
I think it is healing pretty well,
helps that I am very light completion...

I am literally living with my word(s) of 2017
and I am excited to see where this year takes me.

I know tattoos are not everyone's cup of tea,
but they are mine and I love my growing collection
