Today's Article of Interest is "Plaid" from episode #2 

in the mini series from the podcast 99% Invisible:

I thought this episode was so interesting because it takes you on a rollercoaster:

 from midwest "working clothes" to styles worn by lesbians 

to the origins of the pattern (Scotland) to the slave trade to American culture 

with designers like Ralph Lauren.

They also discussed how banning the traditional clothes of Scotland made them trendy.

Of course I had to break out some plaid (ummm... sorry, tartan according to Scots)

What I Wore: glasses- Bonlook, lips- Ciate Lip Luster "Kiss Me" via Ipsy, necklace- Julie Vos "Coin Charm",  top- Walmart, belt- shop in Alaska during our honeymoon, pants- Gap, sandals- Target

The most interesting part of the "Plaid" Article of Interest Episode #2 from 99% Invisible

was "The Scottish Register of Tartans" where tartans are recorded for EVERYTHING.

For 70 pounds you could have your tartan registered too!

Today's blog post inspiration comes from the 99% Invisible podcast episode 

"Blue Jeans : Articles of Interest #5" 

I learned lots about Blue Jeans in this episode,  

I thought it was so interesting that the oldest pair of blue jeans "the blueprint for all blue jeans today" are from 1879 and they still look classic. 

"Here’s the really cool thing about old blue jeans. With most of our clothes, we try to keep them pretty pristine and avoid spills and rips and tears. But denim is so hard wearing and hardworking that it just kind of amasses more and more signs of wear. So you can dissect a pair of old jeans like an archeologist. You can actually see how someone walked or sat."

& I did not know that denim being "stoned washed" 

can literally mean being washed over and over again with rocks!

{which obviously uses a lot of water}

I also learned that you are not suppose to wash your jeans that often- only after about 5 wears

Loved how they talked about blue jeans "hitting on cultural moments that go across our society".

Come to think of it, I guess this outfit would be more "denim" and not so much "blue jeans"...

Please excuse the wrinkles in this outfit but on this day I apparently forgot to set ANY alarms, 

so I was running a little bit late, but still managed to catch my usual train to NYC 

(still not sure how...)

Articles of Interest : Kids' Clothes

We are continuing with my "Articles of Interest" from 99% Invisible inspo week.

Today's inspo is the episode "Kids' Clothes" 

{technically the first in this mini-series}

I love the way they introduce this series with this quote: 

"Fashion is just another word for the constant, inevitable shifts in popular taste. Garments, just like buildings and cars and movies, can’t help but reflect the circumstances of our moment in history. That’s what fashion is. Another way of telling time."

In this episode they interview Joe Rosenberg 

and he discusses how he has to wears kids clothing due to his condition 

called Spondelo Epithethele Disphasia.

I happen to enjoy lots of kids' clothing, 

for one: they are cheaper & sometimes the patterns are more fun too!
